This has a real psychedelic feel to it, in my opinion. It has a bit of everything thrown in - birds, clovers, mushrooms, insects, horse shoes, an oak tree. I don't see any mistletoe.

This site shows off my gnome/elf Christmas postcard collection. Most of these postcards are from the early 1900's. I think that they are a remnant of a bygone, pagan era in Northern Europe, when the Winter Solstice was celebrated with the use of the "Fly Agaric" mushroom. Christianity has Disney-fied the celebration, but it would seem that a few talented artists, perhaps inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice and Wonderland (1865), were still celebrating in the old way.

My inspiration for this collection was an experience I had with the Amazonian shamanic medicine called Ayahuasca, in which I was visited by a few gnomes. I have not tried the Fly Agaric mushroom, but if anyone has had an experience with it (particularly a gnome-visiting experience), feel free to describe it in the comments.
